L-Tyrosine
About L-Tyrosine
L-tyrosine is classified as a non-essential amino acid. This means the body can synthesize sufficient amounts to meet daily needs. An existing theory indicates that L-tyrosine is a semi-essential amino—under certain situations the body cannot meet demands and additional L-tyrosine must be acquired through diet or supplementation.
Uses/Benefits
L-tyrosine is an important factor in regulating mood. L-tyrosine deficiency can lead to poor mood, low blood pressure and low body temperature. Deficiency has also been associated with Restless Leg Syndrome. L-tyrosine is involved in the metabolism of the amino acid phenylalanine and has been used to ease headaches, stress and anxiety, and to support individuals dealing with chemical addictions.
Manufacturing
L-tyrosine is manufactured by extraction from vegetable protein. Ajinomoto does not use materials of animal origin in its manufacturing process; L-tyrosine is manufactured under cGMP conditions. Ajinomoto has a Drug Master File on L-tyrosine on file at the FDA.
