L-Aspartic Acid

About L-Aspartic Acid

L-aspartic acid is a nonessential amino acid. It is found in abundance in plant proteins but can be manufactured in the body from oxaloacedic acids. It is one of two acidic amino acids.

Uses/Benefits

Aspartic acid and glutamic acid play important roles as general acids in enzyme active centers, as well as in maintaining the solubility and ionic character of proteins. Aspartic acid is used as a component of parenteral and enteral nutrition. In pharmaceutical agents aspartic acid is used as an ammoniac detoxicating agent, hepar function accelerator and fatigue refresher. Aspartic acid is also widely utilized for mineral supplementation in the form of its potassium, magnesium or calcium salts.

Manufacturing

Ajinomoto L-aspartic acid is manufactured by the enzymatic method using fumaric acid as the starting material. Ajinomoto manufactures all of its amino acids under cGMP conditions. No materials of animal origin are used in manufacturing L-aspartic acid or any other Ajinomoto amino acid. A Drug Master File for L-aspartic acids is on record at the FDA.
